Included is a method to identify hidden RDX-based explosives (pure andplastic ones) in the fr equency domain study by Fourier Transformation, which has been complemented by the demonstration of improvement of the quality of the images captured commercially available THz passive cameras. The presentedexamples show large potential for the detection of small hidden objects at long distances (6-10 m). Complementing the results in the short-wavelength range, laser spectroscopy with a mid-infrared, room temperature, continuous wave,DFB laser diode and high performance DFB QCL have been demonstrated to o ffer excellent enabling sensor technologies for environmental monitoring, medical diagnostics, industrial and security applications. From the new source point ofview a number of systems have been presented - From superconductors to semiconductors, e.g. De tection of Terahertz Waves from Superconducting Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+ Intrinsic Josephson Junctions. The quest for a compact room temperatureTHz source and the recent advances in high power mid-IR QCLs lead to the development of a semiconductor THz source based on intracavity difference frequency generation. Furthermore, alternative electrically pumped THz sources based onthe high emission efficiency predicted for polaritonic states in the ultra-strong coupling regime led to the demonstration of electroluminesce nt devices. Finally, antipolaritons in dispersive media were discussed and differentaspects of the interaction of THz radiation with biomater were presented

As a basic principle of classification we chose the energetic or intensity level of interaction of laser radiationwith the surfaces. Note:This book mainly focuses on the investigation of the electric-field control of magnetism and spin-dependent transportation based on a Co40Fe40B20(CoFeB)/Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)0.7Ti0.3O3(PMN-PT) multiferroic heterostructure. Methods ofcharacterization and ana lysis of the multiferroic properties with in situ electric fields are induced to detect the direct magnetoelectric (ME) coupling. A switchable and non-volatile electric field control of magnetization inCoFeB/PMN-PT(001) structures is observed at room temp erature, and the mechanism of direct coupling between the ferroelectric domain and ferromagnetic film due to the combined action of 109 ferroelastic domain switching in PMN-PT andthe absence of magnetocrystalline anisotropy in CoFeB is demonstrated. Moreo ver, the electric-field control of giant magnetoresistance is achieved in a CoFeB-based spin valve deposited on top of (011) oriented PMN-PT, which offers anavenue for implementing electric-writing and magnetic-reading random access memory at room tempera ture. Readers will learn the basic properties of multiferroic materials, many useful techniques related to characterizing multiferroicsand the interesting ME effect in CoFeB/PMN-PT structures, which is significant for applications

Note:This book mainly focuses on the theoretical and experimental study of non-Fourier heat conduction behavior. A novel thermomass theory is used as the theoretical basis, which provides a general heat conduction equation for theaccurate prediction of no n-Fourier heat conduction. In order to prove the validity of this thermomass theory, a large current was used to heat the metallic nanofilm at the minimum temperature of 3 K. The measured average temperature ofthe nanofilm was notably higher than the pred iction of Fouriers heat diffusion equation, while matching well with the general heat conduction equation. This is the first time that steady non-Fourier heat conduction has beenobserved. Moreover, this book concerns the role of electron-phonon interactio n in metallic nanofilms, which involves the breakdown of the Wiedemann-Franz law at low temperatures and interfacial thermal resistance at femtosecondtimescales. Readers will find useful information on non-Fourier heat conduction and the latest advances i n the study of charge and heat transport in metallic nanofilms
