As a basic principle of classification we chose the energetic or intensity level of interaction of laser radiationwith the surfaces. The waves can be acoustic, elastic or electromagnetic. They are generatedby point sources on a transmitter array and measured on a receiver array. An important problem in multistatic imaging is to quantify and understand the trade-offs between data size, computational complexity, signal-to-noise ratio, andresolution. Another fundamental problem i s to have a shape representation well suited to solving target imaging problems from multistatic data. In this book the trade-off between resolution and stability when the data are noisy isaddressed. Efficient imaging algorithms are provided and their res olution and stability with respect to noise in the measurements analyzed. It also shows that high-order polarization tensors provide an accurate representation of thetarget. Moreover, a dictionary-matching technique based on new invariants for the general ized polarization tensors is introduced. Matlab codes for the main algorithms described in this book are provided. Note:The present book provides a contemporary systematic treatment of shock waves in high-temperature collisionless plasmas as are encountered in near Earth space and in Astrophysics. It consists of two parts. Part I develops thecomplete theory of shocks in dilute hot plasmas under the assumption of absence of collisions among the charged particles when the interaction is mediated solely by the self-consistent electromagnetic fields. Such shocks are naturallymagnetised implying that the magnetic field pla ys an important role in their evolution and dynamics. This part treats both subcritical shocks, which dissipate flow energy by generating anomalous resistance or viscosity,andsupercritical shocks. The main emphasis is, however, on super-critical shocks wh ere the anomalous dissipation is insufficient to retard the upstream flow. These shocks, depending on the direction of the upstream magnetic field, aredistinguished as quasi-perpendicular and quasi-parallel shocks which exhibit different behaviours, refle cting particles back upstream and generating high electromagnetic wave intensities. Note:Black hole gravitohydromagnetics (GHM) is developed from the rudiments to the frontiers of research in this book. GHM describes plasma interactions that combine the effects of gravity and a strong magnetic field, in the vicinity(ergosphere) of a rapi dly rotating black hole. This topic was created in response to the astrophysical quest to understand the central engines of radio loud extragalactic radio sources. The theory describes a torsional tug of warbetween rotating ergospheric plasma and the dist ant asymptotic plasma that extracts the rotational inertia of the black hole. The recoil from the struggle between electromagnetic and gravitational forces near the event horizon ismanifested as a powerful pair of magnetized particle beams (jets) that are ejected at nearly the speed of light. These bipolar jets feed large-scale magnetized plasmoids on scales as large as millions of light years (the radio lobes ofextragalactic radio sources). This interaction can initiate jets that transport energy fluxes exceeding 1047 ergs/s. This second edition of the book is updated throughout and contains a completely new chapter discussing state of theart and results of numerical simulations of ergospheric disk jets occuring in magnetohydrodynamic accretion flows
