Title: | Unsteady Computational Fluid Dynamics in Aeronautics [electronic resource] |
Author(s): |
P.G Tucker |
Date: | 2014 |
Publisher: | Dordrecht : Springer Netherlands : Imprint: Springer |
Size: | 1 online resource |
Note: | The field of Large Eddy Simulation (LES) and hybrids is a vibrant research area. This book runs through all the potential unsteady modelling fidelity ranges, from low-order to LES. The latter is probably the highest fidelity forpractical aerospace sy stems modelling. Cutting edge new frontiers are defined. One example of a pressing environmental concern is noise. For the accurate prediction of this, unsteady modelling is needed. Hence computationalaeroacoustics is explored. It is also emerging that th ere is a critical need for coupled simulations. Hence, this area is also considered and the tensions of utilizing such simulations with the already expensive LES. This work hasrelevance to the general field of CFD and LES and to a wide variety of non-aero space aerodynamic systems (e.g. cars, submarines, ships, electronics, buildings). Topics treated include unsteady flow techniques LES and hybrids generalnumerical methods computational aeroacoustics computational aeroelasticity coupled simulations and tur bulence and its modelling (LES, RANS, transition, VLES, URANS). The volume concludes by pointing forward to future horizons and inparticular the industrial use of LES. The writing style is accessible and useful to both academics and industrial practitione rs. From the reviews: Tucker's volume provides a very welcome, concise discussion of current capabilitiesfor simulating and modellng unsteady aerodynamic flows. It covers the various possible numerical techniques in good, clear detail and presents a very wide range of practical applications beautifully illustrated in many cases. Thisbook thus provides a valuable text for practicing engineers, a rich source of background information for students and those new to this area of Research & Development, and an excellent state-of-the-art review for others. Note: | Ludwig Prandtl, with his fundamental contributions to hydrodynamics, aerodynamics and gasdynamics, greatly influenced the development of fluid mechanics as a whole and it was his pioneering research in the first half of the 20thcentury that founded m odern fluid mechanics. His book `Fuhrer durch die Stromungslehre or `Essentials of Fluid Mechanics appeared in 1942. Even today it is considered one of the most important books in the area. It is based onthe 12th German edition with additional material in cluded. All Chapters have been revised and extended, and there are new chapters on fluid mechanical instabilities and turbulence, microflows and biofluid mechanics. Essentials of FluidMechanics is aimed at science and engineering students and researchers wishing to obtain an overview of the different branches of fluid mechanics. The book is extensively illustrated throughout and includes problems to aid learning inmany chapters. Reviews of previous edition: The range of topics considered in this volume is impressive and physical ideas and principles described and illustrated by a wide range of examples will make this book interesting to studentsand specialists in various fields. --Contemporary Physics |

Note: | All over the world sport plays a prominent role in society: as a leisure activity for many, as an ingredient of culture, as a business and as a matter of national prestige in such major events as the World Cup in soccer or theOlympic Games. Hence, it is not surprising that science has entered the realm of sports, and, in particular, that computer simulation has become highly relevant in recent years. This is explored in this book by choosing five differentsports as examples, demonstrating that comput ational science and engineering (CSE) can make essential contributions to research on sports topics on both the fundamental level and, eventually, by supporting athletes performance |

Title: | Fluid Dynamics [electronic resource] : Theory, Computation, and Numerical Simulation |
Author(s): |
Constantine Pozrikidis |
Date: | 2009 |
Edition: | 2 |
Publisher: | Boston, MA : Springer US |
Size: | 1 online resource |

Note: | Springer 2013 e-book collections |
Note: | Fluid Dynamics: Theory, Computation, and Numerical Simulation is the only available book that extends the classical field of fluid dynamics into the realm of scientific computing in a way that is both comprehensive and accessibleto the beginner. The theory of fluid dynamics, and the implementation of solution procedures into numerical algorithms, are discussed hand-in-hand and with reference to computer programming. This book is an accessible introduction totheoretical and computational fluid dynamic s (CFD), written from a modern perspective that unifies theory and numerical practice. There are several additions and subject expansions in the Second Edition of Fluid Dynamics, including newMatlab and FORTRAN codes. Two distinguishing features of the di scourse are: solution procedures and algorithms are developed immediately after problem formulations are presented, and numerical methods are introduced on a need-to-knowbasis and in increasing order of difficulty. Matlab codes are presented and discussed for a broad range of topics from interfacial shapes in hydrostatics, to vortex dynamics, to Stokes flow, to turbulent flow. A supplement to thisbook is the FORTRAN software library FDLIB, freely available through the Internet, whose programs explicitly i llustrate how computational algorithms translate into computer code instructions. The codes of FDLIB range from introductoryto advanced, and the problems considered span a broad range of applications from laminar channel flows, to vortex flows, to flows i n aerodynamics. Selected computer problems at the end of each section ask the student to run theprograms for various flow conditions, and thereby study the effect of the various parameters determining each flow. This text is a must for practitioners and s tudents in all fields of engineering, computational physics, scientificcomputing, and applied mathematics. It can be used as a text in both undergraduate and graduate courses in fluid mechanics, aerod |

Note: | Hyposonic fluid flows, characterized by a low Mach number, are mainly linked with geophysical and environmental fluid flows. In addition they are relevant to engineers because of their connection with aerodynamics. The book bringstogether insights de rived from mathematically rigorous results and combines them with a number of realistic fluid flow situations. Asymptotic analytic solutions for the low-Mach number cases are developed to provide both insights intothe underlying physics as well as benchma rks for numerical computations |
