Title:Graphs, Dioids and Semirings [electronic resource] : New Models and Algorithms
Author(s): Michel Gondran
Michel Minoux
Date:2008
Publisher:Boston, MA : Springer US
Size:1 online resource
Note:Springer e-book platform
Note:Springer 2013 e-book collections
Note:The origins of Graph Theory date back to Euler (1736) with the solution of the celebrated 'Koenigsberg Bridges Problem' and to Hamilton with the famous 'Trip around the World' game (1859), stating for the first time a problemwhich, in its most recent version the 'Traveling Salesman Problem' -, is still the subject of active research. Yet, it has been during the last fifty years or sowith the rise of the electronic computersthat Graph theory hasbecome an indispensable discipline in terms of the numbe r and importance of its applications across the Applied Sciences. Graph theory has been especially central to Theoretical and Algorithmic Computer Science, and Automatic Control,Systems Optimization, Economy and Operations Research, Data Analysis in the E ngineering Sciences. Close connections between graphs and algebraic structures have been widely used in the analysis and implementation of efficientalgorithms for many problems, for example: transportation network optimization, telecommunication network o ptimization and planning, optimization in scheduling and production systems, etc. The primary objectives of GRAPHS, DIODS ANDSEMIRINGS: New Models and Algorithms are to emphasize the deep relations existing between the semiring and diod structures with gr aphs and their combinatorial properties, while demonstrating the modeling and problem-solvingcapability and flexibility of these structures. In addition the book provides an extensive overview of the mathematical properties employed by nonclassical algebr aic structures, which either extend usual algebra (i.e., semirings),or correspond to a new branch of algebra (i.e., diods), apart from the classical structures of groups, rings, and fields

Title:Lattices and Ordered Algebraic Structures [electronic resource]
Author(s): T.S Blyth
Date:2005
Publisher:London : Springer London
Size:1 online resource
Note:Springer e-book platform
Note:Springer 2013 e-book collections
Note:Lattices and Ordered Algebraic Structures provides a lucid and concise introduction to the basic results concerning the notion of an order. Although as a whole it is mainly intended for beginning postgraduates, the prerequisitiesare minimal and selec ted parts can profitably be used to broaden the horizon of the advanced undergraduate. The treatment is modern, with a slant towards recent developments in the theory of residuated lattices and ordered regularsemigroups. Topics covered include: [bulleted list] residuated mappings Galois connections modular, distributive, and complemented lattices Boolean algebras pseudocomplemented lattices Stone algebras Heyting algebras ordered groupslattice-ordered groups representable groups Archimedean ordered struct ures ordered semigroups naturally ordered regular and inverse Dubreil-Jacotin semigroups [end od bulleted list] Featuring material that has been hitherto availableonly in research articles, and an account of the range of applications of the theory, there are also many illustrative examples and numerous exercises throughout, making it ideal for use as a course text, or as a basic introduction tothe field for researchers in mathematics, logic and computer science. T. S. Blyth is Professor Emeritus at St. An drews University, UK
