Note:With this thesis the author contributes to the development of a nonmainstream but long-standing approach to electroweak symmetry breaking based on an analogy with superconductivity. Electroweak symmetry breaking is assumed to becaused by dynamically generated masses of typical fermions, i.e., of quarks and leptons, which in turn assumes a new dynamics between quarks and leptons. Primarily it is designed to generate fermion masses, and electroweak symmetrybreaking is an automatic consequence.. the sum mary of the topic, the first main part of the thesis addresses the question as to whether the masses of known quarks and leptons provide sufficiently strong sources of electroweak symmetrybreaking. It is demonstrated that neutrino masses subject to the se esaw mechanism are indispensable ingredients. The other two parts of the thesis are dedicated to the presentation of two particular models: The first model is based onthe new strong Yukawa dynamics and serves as a platform for studying the ability to repr oduce fermion masses. Note:The unique electronic band structure of graphene gives rise to remarkable properties when in contact with a superconducting electrode. In this thesis two main aspects of these junctions are analyzed: the induced superconductingproximity effect and th e non-local transport properties in multi-terminal devices. For this purpose specific models are developed and studied using Green function techniques, which allow us to take into account the detailed microscopicstructure of the graphene-superconductor in terface. It is shown that these junctions are characterized by the appearance of bound states at subgap energies which are localized at the interface region. Furthermore it is shown thatgraphene-supercondutor-graphene junctions can be used to favor the sp litting of Cooper pairs for the generation of non-locally entangled electron pairs. Note:In this book the author presents two important findings revealed by high-precision magnetic penetration depth measurements in iron-based superconductors which exhibit high-transition temperature superconductivity up to 55 K: oneis the fact that the s uperconducting gap structure in iron-based superconductors depends on a detailed electronic structure of individual materials, and the other is the first strong evidence for the presence of a quantum criticalpoint (QCP) beneath the superconducting dome of iron-based superconductors. The magnetic penetration depth is a powerful probe to elucidate the superconducting gap structure which is intimately related to the pairing mechanism ofsuperconductivity. The author discusses the possible gap structure of ind ividual iron-based superconductors by comparing the gap structure obtained from the penetration depth measurements with theoretical predictions, indicating thatthe non-universal superconducting gap structure in iron-pnictides can be interpreted in the fra mework of A1g symmetry. This result imposes a strong constraint on the pairing mechanism of iron-based superconductors. The author alsoshows clear evidence for the quantum criticality inside the superconducting dome from the absolute zero-temperature pene tration depth measurements as a function of chemical composition. A sharp peak of the penetration depth at acertain composition demonstrates pronounced quantum fluctuations associated with the QCP, which separates two distinct superconducting phases. This gives the first convincing signature of a second-order quantum phase transition deepinside the superconducting dome, which may address a key question on the general phase diagram of unconventional superconductivity in the vicinity of a QCP
